Example of a topic on  the MagnumXE

The Mopar Wiki site is a brand new concept of having everyone in the Mopar community (regardless of which club or board you belong to) to pull together and build the biggest and best database of Mopar Knowledge ever assembled.

Frankly, this is going to take a little time to get the ball rolling, as most people are not leaders but followers. Like those who will only support their sports teams when they are winning – followers will only participate after they have seen enough leaders participate first.

Therefore, we are looking for a group of leaders willing to roll up their sleeves and set an example for the followers. If you have leadership qualities and would like to be on the ground floor with participating in a project like this – see the wanted ads in the forum.

Enough of the Administrative work has been finished to have the site functional. While there will always be tuning to make the site better and better -- registered users currently logged in can contribute some of their knowledge on the subject. Don't worry about writing the entire topic -- just contribute what information you have. For instance, if you have facts on production numbers or technical specs -- go ahead and add them and leave the pretty words to the Wordsmiths.

Welcome to Mopar Wiki

What is a Wiki? The word Wiki comes from the Hawaiian word for quick. Those of you fortunate enough to fly into Honolulu might have taken the Wiki Wiki Shuttle between the International and the Inter-Island terminals.

As it applies to the Internet, a Wiki has become the generally accepted term for an encyclopedia built by a collaboration of the public, based on their knowledge of the subject, and those seeking that knowledge use it. The process generally starts with an initial article by someone who has well researched the topic, and is able to give reference citations. Others will then edit the article for the addition of more information, corrections, and grammatical style. Ultimately, the article will mature and then is locked for routine edits, although can be updated when a panel is shown cause for it to be. Along the editing process, previous versions are preserved to protect the article from bad editing or vandalism. Good Wikis will have thousands contributing their knowledge and research; and dozens of volunteers to edit for style, research conflicting information, moderate to eliminate ulterior motive; and there is generally a dispute panel, which will hear and settle disputes.

What is a Mopar? Mopar was originally a term the Chrysler Corporation created in the 1930s for their dealer’s parts department. It stood for MOtor PARts. It later became the slang reference for vehicles, parts, people, clubs, etc associated with the Chrysler makes and models, which not only include: Imperial, Chrysler, Dodge, Desoto, Plymouth, Valiant (yes – it was it’s own make initially) – but also predecessors like Chalmers and Maxwell; and acquisitions (and their predecessors) like AMC, Rambler, Jeep, Eagle, Nash, and Hudson.

What is Mopar Wiki? Mopar Wiki is the on-line encyclopedia with the goal of becoming the world’s biggest and best database of Mopar Knowledge. This will be accomplished with the collaboration of thousands of people pitching in and helping with their vast spectrum of skills. It requires people with the actual historical and technical knowledge, people who excel at editing, people who fairly moderate out ulterior motives, people to perform quality research, people to help with programming, and people experienced with arbitration and mediation.

Affiliations? We have absolutely none. This collaboration is open to all willing and able to help. There is no club or community with more influence – nor any club or community excluded. We leave our club loyalties at the door here at Mopar Wiki.

Navigation Mopar Wiki

Navigating This Site

This site is broken down into three different areas to the normal visitor of Mopar Wiki. The below discuss these areas, and their purpose.

The Portal: This area you are at right now is called the Portal. On it there is this Front Page, all of the boxes in the left side bar, and most of the other pages which are not either a Wiki article, or a bulletin board thread. Many of the information pages, technical charts, and calculators in the left side bar are pages associated with the Portal. A frequent check of the left side bar will show more and more of those charts and tools are added each week as we build a complete Information Base for all things Mopar.

The Wiki: The Wiki is the actual encyclopedia pages of information. That area of the site is due to open in the first week of April. In the Wiki, contributors submit their information or historical articles, editors and fact checkers improve on it, and others add to it. As discussed above, over time the article matures closer and closer to perfect and the collaboration of the community improves on it. It is actually the brain of the Mopar Wiki project -- collecting and dispensing knowledge.

The Forums -- or Bulletin Board:  A lot of things are happening in the Forums. Some things like discussions of prospective and published Wiki articles are viewable to the public -- while a lot of the behind the scenes discussions required for the smooth operation and improvement of the site are only seen by the different groups of staff. Editors and fact checkers discuss what is required in their area or responsibilities, moderators and the Forum administrator use a section of the forum for their areas, and the programmers and site administrators have their are for their discussions. So while the Wiki is the brain -- the forum might be considered the heart of Mopar Wiki -- as that is where all of the collaborating of many people from all over the world are getting together to organize the smooth operation of this site.
