The term Funny Car, as it related to [[Drag Racing]], generally is a type of [[race car]] that has the body somewhat resemble a [[production car]] -- but has been severely modified for [[aerodynamics]]. This body is typically [[fiberglass]] and covers a [[tube chassis]] having the [[driver]] sitting in the center -- rather to the left side. These cars evolved from the [[FX]] cars of the mid [[60s]], when [[Super Stock]] cars started appearing at races with [[altered wheelbases]]. Definition

The term Funny Car, as it related to Drag Racing, generally is a type of race car that has the body somewhat resemble a production car -- but has been severely modified for aerodynamics. This body is typically fiberglass and covers a tube chassis having the driver sitting in the center -- rather to the left side. These cars evolved from the FX cars of the mid 60s, when Super Stock cars started appearing at races with altered wheelbases. It is believed that the term was first coined when Dick Landy brought an Altered 65 Coronet to a NHRA event, and then told that they were not going to let that "Funny Car run.
