A "Hardtop" is a body style of a car popular from the early [[50s]] through the [[70s]] because it was missing the [[door pillar]] -- making the car look like a [[convertible]] top with the top up. They had a tendency of being a little noisier with the windows up, and were less desirable as [[drag racing]] cars as the elimination of the pillar made the car less rigid.
