A "Hardtop" is a body style of a car popular from the early 50s through the 70s because it was missing the door pillar -- making the car look like a convertible top with the top up. They had a tendency of being a little noisier with the windows up, and were less desirable as drag racing cars as the elimination of the pillar made the car less rigid.
